According to a report on The Verge, American software giant Microsoft has fixed a vulnerability that allowed Windows 7 and Windows 8 users to upgrade to Windows 11 for free. This basically means Windows 7 platform users and Windows 8 will now have to pay to upgrade to the Windows 11 operating system.
Microsoft launched Windows 11 in 2021 as a free upgrade to Windows 10. However, the operating system is available as a free upgrade even for Windows 7 and Windows 8 due to a vulnerability in system updates. The vulnerability allows users to upgrade to Windows 11 using a key associated with Windows 7 and Windows 8. Microsoft announced the blocking of Windows 7 and Windows 8 keys from Windows 11 late last month, but only now does this blocking actually take effect, The Verge reported. Surprisingly, the Windows 11 activation status will not change if you have upgraded your machine from Windows 7 or Windows 8 to Windows 11. However, Microsoft is no longer accepting keys related to Windows 7 and Windows 8 for a clean Windows 11 upgrade.
Last month, Microsoft rolled out a Windows 11 operating system update that brings system-wide artificial intelligence (AI)-based Windows Co-Driver, AI image creation tools for Paint, and more. Windows Copilot is one of the most important Windows 11 updates. The AI-powered digital assistant answers queries, launches apps, helps users manage PC settings, and summarizes emails and websites on command.
Besides Windows 11 Copilot, Microsoft has added an AI-based image creation tool in Paint, a text extraction feature in the Snipping tool, and an AI-based auto-compose feature in the Clipchamp video editor. Other upgrades in the September Windows 11 upgrade include background blur for images and AI-powered search capabilities in the Photos app, improved Save feature, and more language options for Narrator art.
