The husband of an Indian student who was severely attacked by four unidentified thieves in Chicago, USA, has written to the Indian government, seeking legal and medical help. On February 4, student Syed Mazahir Ali was kidnapped and beaten.Ruqiya Fatima, wife of Syed Mazahir Ali, wrote to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday.

This means that my husband, Syed Mazahir Ali, a graduate student in information and technology at Indiana Wesleyan University, was kidnapped and severely assaulted on Campbell Avenue in Chicago while he was near his residence. He was taken to hospital  she wrote a message to one of her husbands and a friend around six o’clock on the 4th of February.

Ruqiya Fatima claims that due to the current mental instability, Ali is in shock; and cannot speak. My biggest concern is my husband and safety. So that I can fly to the United States with my three young children to be with my husband, I humbly ask that you help him get the best medical care and make the necessary arrangements if possible,  he said. Earlier, a video of the violent encounter, showing Ali bleeding profusely, went viral on social media. In the video, he is heard begging Help me brother, help me and is clearly agitated and panting.
