The newly appointed Chief Minister Champai Soren of Jharkhand will take the speaking test today at 11 am to prove his majority in Parliament. After the resignation and subsequent arrest of his employer Hemant Soren by the police department last week, the politician has emerged as the top dog. On Sunday evening, the ruling JMM-led coalition sent its leader back to Ranchi after sequestering their mutual legal resources at a resort in Hyderabad to end the poaching.

With the support of 47 MLAs, JMM claims that the floor test is “just a formality.andquot; The BJP, however, said on Monday that the alliance and the decision to hide its MLAs showed a lack of trust.

  1. JMM’s Manoj Pandey argues that the floor test is just a “formality. Considering the INDIA federation and its size and cohesion, the opposition  morale is already low. According to JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya, less than 47 MLAs currently support the Champai Soren government.

  4. The  MLAs of the JMM-led alliance were flown back to Ranchi on Sunday after spending the previous three days at a resort in Hyderabad. They appeared and claimed that they had the support of 48-50 members of parliament, who predicted a vote of confidence.
  5. On Friday, Champai Soren formed the government amid allegations of deliberate delay by the governor. He was reportedly supported by 47 MLAs out of 81 members of the Jharkhand Assembly. With AJSU and three MLAs and BJP with 26 MLAs, the BJP-led NDA has 29 MLAs.
  6. Close aide Champai Soren went to the Governor with the support of 47 MLAs after Hemant Soren was arrested by the ED on January 31 in connection with the alleged land scam case.

  8. Several JMM MLAs opposed to Champai Soren decided not to participate in the floor test.
  9. A special court in Ranchi on Monday allowed former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren to leave jail to participate in the floor test polls.
  10. Lobin Hembrom, JMM MLA, criticized the decision taken on Sunday to keep the MLA at a luxury resort in Hyderabad. However, according to the JMM leadership, Hembrom supports the coalition government.
