Artificial Intelligence: Ethics & Societal Challenges

Course Durating : Approx. 13 hours to complete 3 weeks at 4 hours a week

The four-week course Artificial Intelligence: Ethics and Social Challenges explores the moral and social implications of the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The course aims to increase understanding of the ethical and social implications of artificial intelligence (AI) and to encourage introspection and debate about these implications.Each of the four modules of the course corresponds to approximately one week of part-time study.

There are several lectures and lectures in the module. Each lesson ends with a mandatory task where you summarize in a few sentences the most important new information or understanding you learned during the course and evaluate the lesson summary written by another student or participant.

The purpose of the tests is to encourage learning and provoke thoughts about the moral and practical consequences of the use of artificial intelligence in society. Although completely optional, participation in forum discussions is highly encouraged.In the first module we will talk about algorithmic biasing and control. Is it correct to say that algorithms have no human bias and are only logical? If so, why might they be as biased as we are, and if so, what can we do about it? Artificial Intelligence (AI) improves surveillance in many ways, but what does it mean for us as individuals if we are constantly being monitored in increasingly sophisticated ways?We then discuss how artificial intelligence will affect democracy.

We talk about the value of democracy, the ways in which artificial intelligence can hinder democratic debate in the public space, and the ways in which it can strengthen democracy. For example, we discuss the potential role of social media in the hands of authoritarian regimes and offer suggestions for using artificial intelligence tools to improve democracy.We then discuss how artificial intelligence will affect democracy.

We have great control over the world we live in because of our intelligence. Should we really hand over so much control to machines, and if so, how should we maintain control?After completing the course, you will have the following information: · Basic knowledge about AI bias and how AI works in an overview; ·

a basic understanding of the importance of democracy in relation to artificial intelligence and knowledge of general issues of democracy in relation to artificial intelligence;

a basic understanding of the complexity of the concepts of “intelligence” and awareness and knowledge of general approaches to creating artificial intelligence; ·

basic understanding of the concepts forward looking and reverse liability and issues related to the application of these concepts to artificial intelligence;

a fundamental understanding of the challenge of managing AI, familiarity with generalized solutions, and the ability to analyze and consider the ethical and social implications of these concerns
